Archi-Mini now on video

The official launch of the Archi-Minis is sheduled for the 16th October 2017.

First picture of a real Archi-Mini

As promised in the previous news item and just in time, here is the first picture of a real Archi-MIni:

Well educated Archi-Mini 3B

For the moment there will be 7 Archi-Minis grouped in three families.

The picture shows you Archi-Mini 3B. This model exists in four differents color combinations.

Mid-October (2017), when I will be back from the "Essentie" exhibition in the Netherlands I will load the site with lots of pictures and videos of all the Archi-Minis and communicate prices and shipping cost.

For those who subscribed to the newsletter there will be a special "for friends only" offer.

The Archi-Minis - Ultimate finish

I told you in the previous post that I started creating three series of small art objects of about 10 x 10 x 10 cm. My goal is to offer my numerous fans from around the world the possibility to buy an artwork handmade by the artist for a very friendly price (considering the many hours invested).

2017 09 Johannes BlonK varnishing the Archi-MInis

The picture shows me in my studio surrounded by dozens of small wooden parts (in total there are nearly 350 items!) that will compose these small archtitectural art objects, the Archi-Minis. For the moment I decided to go for three series of 15 objects each. In order to complicate things a little bit more there maybe, inside each serie, different color combinations.

Work is progressing well, I finished painting and I'm now applying two layers of varnish to protect the artworks. If everything goes as planned I should be able to present you the first Archi-Minis at the end of September (2017).

During the varnishing job I'm brainstorming about the sales price of the Archi-Minis, the distribution channels and I'm also wondering if wouldn't be a good idea to make a very special offer to those who have subscribed to my newsletter. In the meantime here is another simulated image of Archi-Mini 1.

Greetings from France and don't hesitate to leave some comments!
A bientôt!

Archi-Minis - A new project

In order to make my art affordable for more people I decided to create series of small art objects (10 x 10 cm with a height of less than 10 cm - 10 cm equals almost 4 inches).

These art objects will be very architectural and some of them will be available in different color combinations.

I already found a name for these art objects: The Archi-Minis. I will create them myself from A to Z and they will carry my signature and the BlonK logo burned into the wood.

At the moment that I write this article I already finished creating three Archi-Minis in wood and I just started the painting process (by hand) of the first model. If everything goes as planned I should be able to present you the first Archi-Mini at the end of September (2017).

As you see I haven't run out of ideas yet, that would be a nightmare for any artist!

Purple Rectangles Approaching!

Johannes BlonK - Secrets of the Purple Rectangles - 2017

On the picture you can see me holding "Strange Violet" in my hand. It's a very pure artwork which I created in 2016.

I discovered that it possesses an important force of attraction. A lot of people cannot resist to close in to it and discover its secrets (see "Artworks > Strange" in the menu on top of this site).

For quite some I feel the need to go further into a certain subject before starting another new painting or art object. Now I feel it is time to go ahead, to do what I really like and I'm really excited about it.

On the palette on the ground lies a part of the material needed to create a series of 7 to 10 three dimensionnal paintings (or wall objects if you prefer). It will probably get the title "The Secrets of the Purple Rectangles". You may notice, on top of one of the stacks, one of the first artworks in a preliminary stage (unmounted).

And what about those art lovers who don't like purple? Don't worry there will be other new colourful artworks and perhaps even the first piece of design furniture with the BlonK logo on it.

Installation with boats

Essentie Heusden 2017-6 installation with The second edition of the exhibition called Essentie was a great success. It was held in Heusden, the Netherlands in the hall of a shipwarf.

About 300 artworks from 60 artists were put in place, mixed up, by the organization without presence of the artists. When I came to the opening I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my artwork "Leaving Town II" was placed in the centre of the hall perfectly aligned to with the ships that remained in the hall. What a great installation!

The third and final edition of this exhibition will take place in the North of the Netherlands, in the city of Den Helder from the 15th October until the 26th November 2017.

Especially for all the faithful readers of the BlonK News you will find below a nice picture I've taken of the windmill at only 200 meters from the exhibition hall. It might be nice to use on your computer as a startup screen.2017 06 windmill in Heusden, NL, photo: J. BlonK

Architecture Pure sold to the USA

One of my artworks has been shipped to the USA.

State of New York, USAArchitecture Pure (back) © Johannes BlonK 2014Bye, bye "Architecture Pure". She was shipped by the dutch gallery Bos Fine Art to cross the Atlantic and to find a new home in the State of New York in the city of Queensbury. This art collector can be very proud with his choice.

Town of Queensbury, NY, USA

And those who live outside the USA like me, what do we know about New York and Queensburry?

Ofcourse New York City (8,6 million people) lies in the State of New York but is it also the capital of this state?

Well it isn't! The capital is Albany counting less than a million inhabitants.

You will probably be much familiar with other places in this state like Lake Placid (Olympic Winter games of 1932 and 1980) and Woodstock (a lot of artists live here and the famous concert Woodstock was held here in 1969). You will probably know, thanks to the movie, that there is a town called Paris in Texas. In the State of New York you may run into places called Amsterdam and Potsdam.

The city of Queensburry (28 000 inhabitants) lies on the New York State Thruway (87) that runs from New York City up to Canada. Curious? You want to know more? Check these websites: Queensbury / State of New York.

Strange Violet has something to hide!

Strange Violet © Johannes BlonK 2016

I wanted to create a very abstract and pure painting that intrigues and attracts you like a magnet. That's how "Strange Violet" was born.

The artwork painted dark violet creates a soft, velours like atmosphere. Only the shadows on the painting reveal that there is a rectangle in the middle.

This three dimensionnal painting or wall object if you prefer, is also strange in a second way as the picuture below will show you.

Another secret is hidden behind the rectangle: a strange construction that creates a lift-off from the background of 5 cm.

Creating this artwork released a lot of new ideas in my head and I will probably make a serie of artworks with hidden sides and ohter visual effects.

I wrote this texte in January while it was freezing outside and impossible to use my workshop. This doesn't mean that I was totally blocked. Instead, inside the house during Winter I fill in applications for future exhibitions, I take care of the administration, make some sketches for new artworks, contact art galeries and write some articles for my the website and Facebook ofcourse. I hope you appreciate.

2017 - A year with a lot of Stijl

Theo van Doesburg & C. van Eesteren, maison particulière 1923
1917 - De Stijl movement - 2017

The foundation of the art magazine and artistic movement The Style by Theo van Doesburg in the Netherlands in 1917  largely influenced the art world, architecture, design and layout.

As an artist in abstract geometric art I owe a lot to those who laid the foundation of this form of art. I therefore decided to dedicate a special page to them that you will find in the menu at the right.

(picture: Maison particulière 1923, Theo van Doesburg (1883-1931), scalemodel rebuild in 1982 by Tjarda Mees, collection Gemeentemuseum The Hague, The Netherlands)

On this webpage I will try to sum up as good as possible what will happen with regards to this jubilee. Most events will take place in the Netherlands. I will also make my contribution to this special year baptisized "Mondrian to dutch design" with three exhibitions in Utrecht, Den Helder and Heusden-Vesting. Hoping to see you!

Revisit my website, read the BlonK News and keep up-to-date!

Entering dutch gallery Bos Fine Art

I met a really nice couple of galleryholders in the Netherlands recently: Marianne Bos and Paul Essens from Bos Fine Art. They are specialized in promoting abstract geometric art and own galleries in Lelystad and Utrecht and they also have an internet site through which they sell art.

After this very pleasant and interesting rencontre we decided to work together in the future. This gallery also likes to function as a meeting point for artists in the same field and I think it could be a launching site towards other markets like Scandinavia and Germany.

A click on the image below will bring you to their internet site. You can find me under "Artists".
